Introduction:
The sun’s last rays exit from the sky and you pick up your blade, slick with blood. The last zombie lays dead.
Finally.
Your muscles are about to give out and your legs shake. Zombie bits ooze down your face. You turn around, jumping as a sound catches your attention.
It’s a knight from the local church. He gazes at the destruction nearby and nods to you in respect.
“You’ve done a good job here. Did you pick up the information from the village nearby?”
“No, you’re talking about Staedus Town nearby?” You ask.
“Yes,” he replies. “The mayor put out a bounty on the zombie infestation. Seeing as you’re the one who cleared it,” he tosses you a bag. You catch it. It’s heavy with coin. “There’s the reward for it. Do you need any healing?”
“Yeah, that’d be nice,” you say, trying to play it off casually, but you can feel your wounds stretching as you move.
He moves forwards, hands glowing. “I’m Gawen. Pleasure to make your acquaintaince.”
The magic seals your cuts and eases the ache in your wounds. “Thank you,” you say.
“Don’t mention it–” he swings his sword around, deflecting another zombie you hadn’t noticed before. This one wore armor similar to Gawen’s. After the zombie topples over, the knight’s face turns ghostly white.
“Are you okay?”
“No,” Gawen says. “That was my sergeant. I guess that makes me the ranking officer around here.”
“Congratulations…?” you say hesitantly.
He shakes his head. “That also makes me the only knight in the area. Something’s been killing us,” he looks around into the darkness, pulling a handkerchief out and buffing the dirt off his vambrace. “And they’re turning us undead.”
